Program Overview
School nurses routinely collect data related to students’ physical and mental health and are often faced with difficult questions related to what kinds of data they can share, with whom, and under what circumstances. This webinar will provide an overview of what school nurses should know about relevant federal laws governing data privacy and data sharing in schools (e.g., FERPA and HIPAA), explain when each law applies, and how they affect data sharing. Specific questions that have been asked by school nurses will be addressed as case studies in an effort to understand specific applications of health data privacy law in schools.
