Program Overview
NASN believes the understanding and implementing the FrameworkTM is foundational to professional school nursing practice. Gaps in, reinforcement needed in, and refresher needed in knowledge to support ongoing incorporation into practice of the NASN FrameworkTM. Requests have been made to provide a shorter online version of the current full-day PD offerings that focus on the individual principles of the FrameworkTM. In-person full day workshop presentations have been challenged due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, and evolving demands placed on practicing school nurses as they return to their full scope of practice. This need was verbalized as during a needs assessment with a state grant site for the CDC funded Advancing Equity in School Health Services by School Nurses. NASN grant deliverables in response to this target state request is to provide professional development and technical assistance to address this need. While targeting a grant site, this provides the opportunity to address the larger requests previously coming from NASN constituents for on-demand, shorter bursts of learning about the FrameworkTM.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe how NASN’s FrameworkTM reflects a mindset for contemporary school nursing practice.
  • Articulate the practice components for each of the five principles.
  • Explain how each principle provides guidance for 21st century school nursing practice to promote health equity for students and staff.
  • Self-report intention to incorporate three key actions that reflect the practice components for each of the five principles into practice in the next six months.
  • Articulate a “stairwell speech” that reflects a FrameworkTM mindset helping school health stakeholders better understand the critical role of the school nurse in supporting education and health equity for students, families, and the school community.
  • Implement an Action Plan for incremental school nursing practice change at the end of this educational offering.
