Description
Students with seizures and epilepsy experience complex and unique issues in the school setting due to the unpredictable nature of seizures, medication delegation barriers, knowledge deficits, and lack of daily school nurse presence (Hartman, et al., 2016).
The National Association of School Nurses' (NASN) School Nursing Evidence-based Clinical Practice Guideline: Students with Seizures and Epilepsy is based on the most recent and highest quality evidence available. Implementation of the CPG practice recommendations will assist the school nurse in providing high quality care to students with seizure disorders and improve the health and safety of students with epilepsy. An Implementation Toolkit is also available to provide the school nurse with template care planning tools and educational materials to assist in implementing the CPG recommendations in to practice.

The School Nursing Evidence-based Clinical Practice Guideline: Students with Seizures and Epilepsy was last published in 2018. A summary of guideline updates is outlined on Page 4 of this edition.

NOTE: The Guideline is a decision-making tool and is not intended to replace application of nursing judgment. The Guideline is available free of change, however, please login or create an account to access.
